Motorists are advised to use Orange River Boulevard detour during temporary overnight closure
Closure necessary for sidewalk and utility improvements project
The Lee County Department of Transportation advises motorists that Orange River Boulevard will be temporarily closed during overnight hours next week and marked detours will be in place.
Crews will close Orange River Boulevard between Muskegon and Ottumwa avenues beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, until 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 15 – and then again at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, until 6 a.m. Thursday, July 16. The overnight road closures are expected to span two nights, but weather and unforeseen circumstances may extend the duration.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution and follow the detour signs. Buckingham Road has been designated as the alternative route.
Access to Orange River Boulevard east of Ottumwa Avenue will be detoured to Palm Beach Boulevard (SR 80) to Buckingham Boulevard. Residents and businesses west of Ottumwa Avenue may continue to use Orange River Boulevard and Palm Beach Boulevard. Access to Orange River Boulevard east of Muskegon Avenue will be detoured to Buckingham Boulevard and Palm Beach Boulevard (SR 80).
The temporary closures are necessitated by the county’s Orange River Boulevard Sidewalk and Utility Improvements Project, which is a comprehensive effort to enhance safety, pedestrian access and utility services along Orange River Boulevard.
The project is anticipated to be completed later this year. The Lee Board of County Commissioners awarded a contract of about $3 million to Thompkins Contracting Inc. to complete the project.
