An exhibit to be showcased at a local Cape Coral museum celebrating 250 years of American history opened Thursday.

The Cape Coral Museum of History invites the community to experience its newest special exhibit, “Salute to America – Celebrating 250 Years of American History,” opening July 2.

Created and funded by the Schroder Fund for the Preservation of the History of Cape Coral, the exhibit commemorates America’s 250th Anniversary by exploring 10 defining moments that shaped the nation.

“Visitors will discover historic artifacts, photographs, and engaging displays highlighting the courage, sacrifice, innovation, and determination that have defined the American story,” museum officials stated.

The exhibit also features local connections that recognize the contributions of Cape Coral residents whose service, leadership and vision helped build the community and country.

The museum also sourced 250 photos of American Flags from residents that have and still are flown in the city.

“As our nation marks its 250th anniversary, this exhibit offers an opportunity for visitors to reflect on the people, events, and ideals that have shaped America’s story,” said Janel Trull, executive director of the Cape Coral Museum of History. “We invite our community to explore these remarkable moments, celebrate our shared heritage, and join us throughout the year as we honor those whose service and sacrifice continue to inspire us.”

While visiting the exhibit, guests are encouraged to save the date for the museum’s annual “Salute to Service and Sacrifice” celebration on Sunday, Nov. 1, from noon to 3 p.m., at Cultural Park. The special event will honor active-duty service members, veterans and their families with an afternoon dedicated to gratitude, remembrance and community.

The Cape Coral Museum of History is at 544 Cultural Park Blvd., Cape Coral. Museum hours are Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
