Perhaps the biggest way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday takes place in Cape Coral, where an annual event provides national entertainment and boasts the largest fireworks display in all of Southwest Florida.

The city of Cape Coral’s Red, White & BOOM! is the largest single-day event in Southwest Florida and is free for attendees.

Put on by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, the event takes place on Cape Coral Parkway at the foot of Cape Coral Bridge from 5 to 10 p.m., and is a rain-or-shine event.

“To me, this event is why we put on special events,” said Cape Coral’s Special Events Coordinator Todd King. “It is the most community-focused event that we do. This year, it’s even more meaningful celebrating the 250th birthday of America. Everyone comes out. The community should come out and honor and celebrate their patriotism. Being able to provide that for our community is the highlight of every year.”

King said the city will be tying in its special “Raise the Flag” event that takes place prior to Red, White & BOOM! to the evening festivities to follow.

“Having the latest American flagpole in Florida is a pretty neat thing,” he said.

The “Raise the Flag” fundraiser is a community-driven effort to build the tallest free-standing American flagpole in Florida. Standing 250 feet tall at Bernice Braden Park, this monumental flag will honor America’s 250th birthday, with city officials stating it is to serve as a powerful symbol of freedom, democracy and unity.

Red, White & BOOM! is a can’t-miss event for those looking to celebrate Independence Day in the grandest fashion, with this year’s firework display is poised to be the largest yet.

“As I say every year, our fireworks display is the best in Southwest Florida,” King said. “It’s synchronized to music, and we’re excited about this year’s show. After working with the show producers, this will be one of the most spectacular shows the city has ever seen. We’re looking forward to sharing all the hard work in putting this together with the community in celebration of America.”

Red, White & BOOM! always features a national headliner, with this year’s entertainment seeing county artist Chris Lane at the top of the bill.

Lane will take to the stage at 8 p.m., followed by the LCEC fireworks display at 9:30. Additional entertainment comes via Rosada Project at 5 p.m. and DJ Sinister at 6:30.

“Being the largest single-day event, we believe, along with leadership, that this show deserves national entertainment that has recognition all over the world,” King said. “We love the country element that the artists we booked bring to the show — very family-friendly, very clean. We always want to make sure they’re the right fit and are very good entertainers.”

As for what the city hopes attendees get out of the event, King said, “The one thing we can all agree on is how great this country is, how great it is to be an American. The whole show is focused on that. We can be proud of our country, proud of our community, our state, city, all of it.”

To ensure everyone’s safety, city officials remind attendees that no pets, fireworks and no outside alcohol will be allowed.

Salute to America — 250th Anniversary

The Cape Coral Museum of History called on the public to assist in the exhibit that pays homage to 250 years of independence for the United States.

The museum sourced photographs from residents of American flags flown in Cape Coral — from local car dealerships and businesses, to ones flown in front yards.

The photos contributed to a mosaic representing the American Flag. The museum sought out 250 photographs, each symbolizing a year in America’s history.

Cape Coral Museum of History Executive Director Janel Trull said the exhibit is titled “Salute to America — 250th Anniversary”.

“The exhibit will briefly tell the story of 10 different significant events in our country’s history and how the American flag was present at and used during each event,” she said. “It highlights the symbolism and importance of our flag and what it has meant to the country and its citizens over the last 250 years. The exhibit is a unique way to celebrate 250 years of American history by looking focusing on one of our country’s most important symbols.”

As for how the museum came up with the idea of getting the community involved, Trull said, “We love having the community involved in everything we do, and this exhibit is no different. July 4th, 2026, is a momentous event, as the United States of America turns 250 years old. By having the public help us commemorate the occasion, they have a role in not only the celebration but their photographs become a record of history as well.”

The temporary exhibition will be on display as part of a regular museum tours starting in July and will run through the end of the year — exact dates to be determined.

The Cape Coral Museum of History is at 544 Cultural Park Blvd., Cape Coral.
