An event that promises fun while supporting local animal rescues, small businesses, and the local community takes place this Saturday in Cape Coral.

From noon to 3 p.m. at Cape Coral Mattress, the Cape Coral Community Event & Donation Drive invites out families for a free afternoon, along with dog and cat adoption opportunities.

Dockery’s Amazing Rescues will have kittens on-site that are available for adoption, while Packin in the Pawz Rescue will give individuals the chance to meet dogs available for adoption.

“We hope people come out because this event is about bringing our community together around causes that matter while creating an affordable, family-friendly experience for everyone,” said event organizer Brittany Meyers. “With kids out of school for the summer, we wanted to remove as many barriers to participation as possible, which is why there are no attendance fees and no vendor fees. Families can meet adoptable animals, interact with local rescues, enjoy activities, and connect with local businesses without spending money just to participate.”

Meyers added that she is excited that Culver’s will be giving away 500 free scoops of frozen custard to support the cause, and Tail Wags TLC will be offering $10 nail trims for dogs. She said several of the small businesses participating are donating a portion of their proceeds back to the rescue organizations.

“It’s a true community collaboration where businesses, nonprofits, and families come together to support animals in need,” Meyers said. “We would be overjoyed to hand out all 500 scoops.”

Interactive experiences at the event are to include:

•  Jacko’s Farm – Handle and bottle feed baby goats and learn about goat adoptions

•  Nosey Paws Farm – Meet a local pet sitting and boarding facility and learn about their services

•  Duck Around Duck Bar – Purchase and customize your own rubber duck

Melissa’s A-Z, a local, family-owned business, is bringing a pop-up pet shop featuring collars, leashes, toys, clothes and more.

Along with Culver’s, there will be a food truck on-site.

Sun Pest Control will have educational coloring sheets for children. Cape Coral Mattress is moving and having a huge liquidation sale.

The donation drive aspect of the event sees local rescues in urgent need of support. Donations of supplies and financial contributions help provide care, comfort, medical treatment, and second chances for animals in need.

Dockery’s Amazing Rescues is in need of:

•  Small blankets

•  Towels

•  Kitten formula

•  Pee pads

•  Soft food for adult cats and kittens

•  Hard food for adult cats and kittens

Packin in the Pawz Rescue is in need of:

•  Purina Pro Plan Salmon & Rice

•  Purina Pro Plan Complete Chicken

•  Durable dog toys (non-plush /not easily destroyed)

•  Monetary donations for medical care

“The donations collected will have an immediate impact on local rescues,” Meyers said. “Supplies like food, formula, blankets, towels, pee pads, and toys are needed every day. Every item donated helps reduce operating expenses so rescues can focus more resources on medical care, rehabilitation, transportation, and ultimately saving more lives. Whether someone adopts, donates, volunteers, or simply attends and learns more about animal welfare, they’re helping create positive change in our community.”

The event is being coordinated by Sun Pest Control.

Cape Coral Mattress is at 741 Del Prado Blvd. N.
