Cape Council approves nearly $800,000 for median beautification
The Cape Coral City Council approved nearly $800,000 for median beautification Wednesday.
City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn said foundational landscaping is part of median beautification — improvement with landscaping.
Foundational landscaping in the city used to mean trees, irrigation and grass.
“If we fund medians as a foundational landscape, the last medians will get trees. The rest, moving forward, will only be sod and irrigation between the curb until we add more funding to increase the intensity or go back to a higher level of foundation,” he said.
Councilmember Rachel Kaduk, who pulled the consent agenda items for discussion, said she would support it, as the beautification has been scaled back.
Resolution 128-26 was a bid to P&T Lawn & Tractor Service, Inc. for the Surfside Boulevard Median Beautification Project in the amount of $441,200.77, providing for approval of 5% city-controlled contingency in the amount of $22,060.04 for a total project of $463,260.81.
Resolution 129-26 is for a contract with P&T Lawn & Tractor Service, Inc. for the Shelby Parkway median beautification in the amount of $325,238,03, providing for approval of 5% city-controlled contingency in the amount of $16,261.90 for a total project of $341,499.93.
