Jaycee Park will re-open to the public next Thursday, with a ribbon-cutting set for May 8. The city of Cape Coral provided members of the media an advance look at the $18.7 million rebuild Wednesday with a walk along the riverfront. Cape Coral City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn and Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Director Joe Petrella acted as tour guides and answered questions on the total rebuild of one of the city’s oldest and most popular parks. New amenities include an elevated boardwalk along the Caloosahatchee that offers views from the Cape Coral Bridge to the Midpoint; a band shell and numerous places to sit, to rest and to enjoy. There also are three new playgrounds, including a splash pad, “misting/drinking” stations for four-legged family members, 425 new trees and an abundance of new native vegetation.
