A Cape Coral business has launched an initiative to benefit a local non-profit that supports breast cancer research, education and advocacy.

Cape Cleaners is inviting the Southwest Florida community to turn spring cleaning into an opportunity to give back through its new initiative, “Closet Cleanout for a Cause,” in partnership with Pickups for Breast Cancer.

From now until April 27, residents can drop off gently used items at Cape Cleaners,  at 810 Cape Coral Parkway, East, in Cape Coral. All donations will be collected and distributed to support programs benefiting individuals and families affected by breast cancer.

Accepted donations include:

• Clothing (men’s, women’s and children’s)

• Accessories (handbags, belts, ties, hats

• Shoes

“‘Closet Cleanout for a Cause’ is designed as a simple, community-driven effort to give new purpose to everyday items while supporting those facing breast cancer,” Cape Cleaners said in a release announcing the fundraiser. “Residents are encouraged to participate and be part of a collective impact across Southwest Florida.”

The initiative will conclude on April 27 with the arrival of the Pickups for Breast Cancer truck, which will collect all donations directly from the Cape Cleaners location.

According to the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation website, “When you donate your gently-used clothes, household goods and furniture… you are helping fund the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation, whose primary objective is to save the lives of those impacted by breast cancer by supporting scientific research, community education, public policy through advocacy, and community-based organizations.”

Cape Cleaners is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and is closed Sunday.
