Council to consider contract for Cape Coral Parkway six-laning
Cape Coral City Council is expected to vote on a contract for the Cape Coral Parkway East six-lane improvement project Wednesday.
Resolution 79-26 is part of the city’s consent agenda, meaning there will be no council discussion unless a member of the elected board “pulls” the item for deliberation.
The resolution, if approved, would award Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC a $2,259,296.47 contract for the work. There also is a city-controlled contingency in the amount of $112,964.82. The total dollar value is $2,372,261.29.
The project includes resurfacing and restriping the pavement between Triton Court East and just west of Cape Coral Street/Southeast 15th Avenue; removing the existing median between Triton Court East and Manor Court and constructing a longer turn lane; installing nine new signal heads on existing signal poles and mast arms; rewiring eight signalized intersections between Chiquita Boulevard and Del Pardo Boulevard; installing additional signage to improve traffic guidance; removing 33 street trees within the clear distance of the new travel lanes for safety and replacing curb and gutter and paver sidewalks along the newly expanded travel lanes.
Another resolution on the consent agenda is 83-26 to approve staffing and cost proposal with AIM Engineering & Surveying, Inc. to provide professional engineering services associated with the design of the drainage improvement project for the dog park at Rotary Park. The not to exceed amount is $136,286.83.
This project is part of the environmental resource permit, which was issued by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, due to the removal of the Chiquita Lock. Part of the requirement was to improve drainage at the Rotary Park dog park to improve water quality. Consent agenda items frequently include contract awards for requests for proposals solicited by the city, purchase orders, work authorizations and the like and are approved as a package. There is no public input before consent agenda votes.
The meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, in City Council Chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
