Cape Coral City Council is expected on Wednesday to consider awarding a bid to Dynamic South, Inc. for the design, fabrication and installation of a 250-foot flagpole at Bernice Braden Park.

If approved, the contract, which is part of the consent agenda, is a not-to-exceed amount of $420,000 for pole to be installed along the north side of Cape Coral Parkway at Bernice Braden Park. The not-to-exceed amount calls for “utilizing those funds existing or to deposited into the Flag Trust Fund.”

Last year, council authorized city staff to fundraise for the purchase and installation of the flagpole, the tallest one in Florida, for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4.

Resolution 70-26  is part of the city’s consent agenda, meaning there will be no council discussion unless a member of the elected board “pulls” the item for discussion.

Consent agenda items frequently include contract awards for requests for proposals solicited by the city, purchase orders, work authorizations and the like and are approved as a package.

There is no public input before consent agenda votes.

The resolution states that the goal of the project is to have the flagpole installed and the project completed by June 4.

Other specifications in the invitation to bid include that the contractor shall provide two U.S. made 60 x100′ nylon American flags; provide and install the required amount of flood lights, winch, pulley and cable assembly to raise and lower the flag. The city would provide the electrical power requirements, conduit, wires, electrician labor, permitting, and inspection services.

The agenda item also states that “donations have been received, along with a commitment to cover any remaining balanced needed for the purchase and installation of the flagpole, if any.”

The Raise the Flag fundraiser has raised $267,111 from 95 supporters as of Tuesday afternoon. The fund currently sits at 53% of its $500,000 goal.

“This isn’t just about a flagpole – it’s about showing how much we care about our country, our freedoms, and each other. It’s up to all of us to unify and get it done for our community and Southwest Florida,” According City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn said on the

The City Council meeting will begin at 4 p.m. March 4, in City Council chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
