Applications open for Cape Coral Youth Council Excellence Awards
Applications are being accepted for the Cape Coral Youth Council Excellence Awards Program through March 3.
The program, now in its third year, recognizes high school students in Cape Coral who excel in one of the five categories – leadership, arts, civic engagement, excellence in academics and athletics.
Last year there were two winners, Emma Brown for the Civic Engagement Award and Ludwika Fortunic for the Leadership Award.
The hope this year is to receive applicants for each category.
“For me, winning the Civic Engagement Award served as a physical representation of my commitment to serving the community, and affirmed that what I’ve done has truly made an impact. Having been born and raised in Cape Coral, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to contribute to my community, and will continue to remain actively involved,” said Brown, an Oasis High School student. “This recognition further motivated me to continue in this endeavor.”
She volunteers for Family Initiative, a local nonprofit.
“My early involvement with this organization ultimately motivated my continued pursuit of community engagement,” Brown said. “I began dedicating my time to several other organizations including Kiwanis and the Cape Coral Animal Shelter. I am a consistent volunteer and will continue to serve those in my community.”
The award is given to young individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication to making a positive impact in the community through their hard work and passion.
Applications may be found at HERE. Applications are due no later than 3 p.m. March 3 to Connie Griglin at cgriglin@capecoral.gov, or hand delivered, mailed to the Cape Coral City Council office, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd., Cape Coral, FL 33990.
To be eligible a student must be a resident of Cape Coral, but can attend any high school; have an unweighted GPA of 3.0; and be in good behavioral and academic standing at their school.
The award ceremony will be held for those selected on Friday, April 10, at 3 p.m. in City Council Chambers.
