A cup of coffee thrown from one vehicle at another resulted in a pair of arrests on Thursday according to local law enforcement officials.
Maggie Meaney, 24 and Xzavier Meaney, 26, both Cape Coral residents, were arrested after police allege Maggie threw a cup of coffee at another car in a road rage incident on Thursday.
Maggie was charged with throwing a deadly missile at, within, or onto an occupied vehicle, and criminal mischief of property damage over $1,000.
She was also arrested for a warrant out of Collier County.
Xzavier was not charged in the alleged coffee-throwing incident but was arrested on multiple warrants out of Lee and Collier counties.
According to Cape Coal Police Department officials, on Thursday just after 1 p.m., officers responded to the intersection of Del Prado Boulevard North and Northeast Pine Island Road. Police officials state the complainants told officers they were driving eastbound on Pine Island Road when a white Chevrolet Traverse attempted to prevent them from changing lanes in a construction zone. The complainants told police that after they did merge, the driver of the Chevrolet became aggressive, making obscene gestures and yelling. Police officials said shorty after, they heard a loud impact on the passenger side of their car and later discovered a dent and scratch estimated at $1,200 in damage.
The Chevrolet was found to be registered to Maggie, and officers were unable to locate the vehicle at the time of the call.
CCPD officials stated that later that day, police using investigative techniques found the Chevrolet parked at BJ’s Wholesale Club on Northeast Pine Island Road. Police state Maggie and Xzavier were in the car.
“Both individuals were found to have active warrants — Maggie from Collier County and Xzavier from both Collier and Lee counties,” a release from CCPD states. “The investigation determined that Maggie Meaney was involved in a road rage incident and threw a white glass coffee cup at the victims’ vehicle during a fit of anger. Xzavier Meaney corroborated the sequence of events, stating he attempted to calm Maggie down before she threw the cup.”
As of Friday afternoon, both Maggie and Xzavier were still in custody at Lee County Jail, with bond amounts not yet set.
