Seven Islands Ordinance 60-25 (2)The final public hearing for the Seven Islands development will come before Cape Coral City Council Wednesday.

Ordinance 60-25 would establish the development agreement between the city and Gulf Gateway Resort & Marina, LLC. Council first authorized development of the property in 2022, selling the 48-acres site it had acquired at a multi-parcel foreclose for $20 million.

Seven Islands is a series of manmade “hammerhead” islands, each narrowly connected to the roadway. The vacant land is at 106 Old Burnt Store Road and 106/200 Old Burnt Store North.

Development plans are for mixed use projects with a maximum of 995 residential units, 10-story hotel, 39 slip marina and 2,106-square-foot dockmaster building, a 16,500-square-foot community center, amphitheater, dog park, splash pad and kayak launch. In addition, there will be a minimum of 45,000 square feet of commercial space, which is in addition to the hotel.

Council also is expected to vote on Ordinance 4-26, which would amend Chapter 26 for the Cape Coral Charter School Authority.

Items addressed include the student community and how preferences are given to those on the wait list. The preferences “must” be given in the following order – to students who matriculate through the elementary, middle, and high schools of the Oasis Charter Schools, to children of a member of the board or of an employee of the authority, to siblings of a student already enrolled in the Oasis Charter Schools, to children of active military members, to students enrolled in the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education Program, and to children of military veterans.

In addition, the changes would provide for background and verification for those applying and/or appointed to the board. The background and vetting process includes employment, criminal, financial, education and military status.

The Cape Coral City Council meeting will take place at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan 21, in City Council Chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
