Florida Fish and Wildlife is continuing to investigate a single-vessel crash that fatally injured three boaters and critically injured a fourth.

Three people died over the weekend in the incident that happened in the Caloosahatchee River near the Cape Coral Yacht Club.

The crash occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Cape Coral Police Department, Cape Coral Fire Department, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Lee County EMS all responded to the scene of the incident on the Caloosahatchee River.

According to FWC officials, Craig Millett, Brenna Millett, and Rebecca Knight were the three individuals that died as a result of the accident. Officials said the fourth individual, Neal Kirby, … “is in critical but stable condition.”

In an email Monday, FWC Public Information Officer Bradley Johnson told The Breeze, “No updates have been provided yet. I know our staff are actively working to gather as much information as possible.”

Cape Coral District 1 Councilmember Bill Steinke, whose district includes the Yacht Club area, shared his condolences to the families and friends of the victims with The Breeze in an email on Monday.

“We’ll get more factual information regarding cause as the investigation unfolds, although, water safety is so critical due to the ever changing conditions and operational nuances of different vessels and operators,” he said. “Be aware, be cautious and make decisions with a good margin of safety.”

No update was available as of press time Tuesday.
