Councilmember Bill Steinke will serve as mayor pro tem and Mayor John Gunter will serve as office manager, a role he has had previously to manage the day-to-day operations of the Council Office.

The two appointments were among housekeeping actions taken by the Cape Coral City Council Wednesday.

In other actions:

• Council approved its 2026 council meeting schedule with the first regular Council meeting to be held Wednesday, Jan. 6, following a hiatus from Dec. 10,  to Jan. 5. The regular meetings will be held at 4 p.m., workshops at 9 a.m., or 9:30 a.m. if following the South Cape Redevelopment Agency meetings.

• Council approved the membership dues for six organizations – Florida League of Cities for $38,490, Florida League of Mayors for $1,350, Metropolitan Planning Organization for $18,232.09, National League of Cities for $14,025, Southwest Florida League of Cities for $3,000 and U.S. Conferences of Mayors for $14,840.

With Wednesday’s meeting being the first one held in November, the council selected liaisons and members for various boards, committees and commissions, keeping the same appointments.
