Lee Commissioners vote to resurface Veterans Parkway from Santa Barbara to Country Club
The project is the third of four planned resurfacing segments for the roadway
The Lee Board of County Commissioners voted Tuesday to continue the effort to resurface Veterans Parkway, awarding a low-bid contract to OHLA USA Inc. to do the work from Santa Barbara to Country Club boulevards in Cape Coral.
The work is expected to begin later this month and continue for several weeks. Work will be done at night and completed each day by 5 a.m. to minimize the impact on motorists. The stretch of Veterans Parkway recorded 54,200 annual average daily trips by motorists in 2024.
Once the work is complete, Veterans Parkway will have been resurfaced from the Midpoint Bridge to Skyline Boulevard during the past few years. Resurfacing the corridor west from Skyline to Chiquita is not yet scheduled.
The $1 million contract includes milling, resurfacing, re-striping and signal loop installation.
In other action Tuesday, the Board of County Commissioners voted to hold a public hearing at the regularly scheduled board meeting at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, to consider the approval of an Agreement with WMG Acquisitions, LLC for improvements at the intersection of Sunniland Boulevard and Lee Boulevard in Lehigh Acres, including the construction of a traffic signal.
Under Florida Statutes Section 336.71, the county may enter into a public-private cooperation for the construction of county roads. The county portion of these improvements is estimated to cost $701,445.
WMG Acquisitions LLC, is developing a site along the north side of Lee Boulevard on both sides of the intersection with Sunniland Boulevard. The developer will be responsible for the costs of the construction of the westbound right turn lanes at Sunniland and at their second site access point, all improvements along Sunniland north of Lee Boulevard, and all improvements along 5th Street West. The county will be responsible for the costs of the extension of the eastbound left-turn lane at Sunniland, construction of a westbound U-turn lane at Sunniland, and construction of a directional median at Terry Avenue North. WMG Acquisitions, LLC and the county will pay 50% of the total costs associated with construction of the traffic signal at Sunniland Boulevard.
