A school bus was involved in a crash Tuesday morning in Cape Coral, though no students were present on the bus at the time of the incident.

According to Cape Coral Police Department officials, the two-vehicle crash happened near the 2500 block of Del Prado Boulevard, North, near the entrance to the Shops at North Cape plaza and McDonald’s restaurant around 7 a.m., and caused all of the northbound lanes to close for a time.

CCPD officials confirmed that “the bus did not have any students on board at the time.”

CCPD officials said three people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash.

In a “Traffic Tip Tuesday” post on social media Tuesday following the crash, CCPD officials reminded parents and drivers on the best way to go about their morning routine.

CCPD’s post stated:

• Always stay on the sidewalk/away from the roadway while waiting for the bus.

• Never run across the street: cross at designated crosswalks when it’s safe.

• Be alert and avoid distractions like phones or earbuds while waiting for the bus.

• Bus stop safety is a two-way street.

• Drivers, slow down in school zones and in areas where kids are waiting for the bus, and keep a 10-foot distance from a bus when it’s picking up or dropping off students.

“Let’s work together to keep our kids safe!” CCPD officials stated.
