City may accelerate UEP timeline

Cape Coral City Council may expedite the timeline for the city’s pending Utility Expansion Program projects.
Resolution 65-25 addresses the UEP within North 6 and also expands the geographical area for which the South Florida Water Management District issued an emergency order in 2023 due to low water levels in the Mid Hawthorn Aquifer. The proposed new schedule includes Hudson Creek and the Pine Island Corridor.
Council’s agenda also includes amending the city’s affordable housing inventory list. This will include the donation of 14 properties from the list to Habitat for Humanity of Lee and Hendry Counties for the development of single-family homes.
There are also six resolutions for the burrowing owl habitat preservation up for approval in association with the Burrowing Owl Habitat Protection grant project. Those purchases include 503 N.E. 1st Ave., 614 N.W. 3rd Pl., 601 N.W. 4th Ave., 606 N.W. 3rd Pl. and 605 N.W. 4th Ave.
The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, in council chambers, 1015 Cultural Park Blvd. The meeting is open to the public.
