City to break ground for Festival Park
The long-awaited groundbreaking for Festival Park — 200-plus acres that was purchased a parcel at a time over two decades — is finally set.
The public-is-invited ceremony will be held July 26, at 9 a.m., at 1100 Wilmington Parkway. The site adjacent to Argosy Lake and Seahawk Park.
The park, to include both the space and amenities for large-scale events as well as a lighted sports complex, has an anticipated completion date of October/November 2025.
“The initial phase will include festival grounds for events, an outdoor concert venue and multi-use sports fields, as well as concessions,” said Cape Coral City Councilmember Keith Long.
Amenities to come also include a future outdoor amphitheater featuring a grass berm for seating.
“Festival Park will provide residents and visitors of Cape Coral with another gathering space to enjoy parks and recreation amenities,” Long said. “It’s always exciting to bring new amenities to the Northwest Cape, which has seen a significant uptick in population growth these past few years.”
“Our job as a city is to match that growth with infrastructure and amenities for those residents – and this is another positive step towards that goal,” Long added.
The cost of the project improvements is estimated at $17.8 million. Land acquisition for the 517 parcels purchased as of June 2022 was estimated to be approximately $29,900,000.
An updated figure was not available as of press time.
The new community park is a component of the $60 million General Obligation bond initiative voters approved in 2018 for the expansion of the city’s parks system, including upgrades to existing facilities.
Hurricane Ian delayed construction of some of the parks, including Festival Park.
