Saturday’s ‘Walk, Wiggle, Wag, and 5k Run’ a go rain or shine

By Staff | Mar 22, 2024

The Cape Coral Animal Shelter’s fourth Annual Walk, Wiggle, Wag, and 5k Run scheduled for Saturday is a go — rain or shine.

“We have over 200 runners and walkers (and dogs) registered, many vendors, and our fun Pet Costume/Talent Contests,” shelter officials stated in an evening release. “The event starts at 8 a.m. and runs until noon, followed by tours of the shelter and viewing of our adoptable animals.”

“Walk, Wiggle, Wag and Run is a family and pet-friendly event intended to raise vital funds to help the homeless, unwanted, and neglected animals that find themselves in our care,” officials said.

Walk, Wiggle, Wag & Run will begin with a timed 5k fun and dogs are welcome. Next there will be a 1-Mile dog friendly “strut” around the neighborhood and CCAS campus. Participants are asked to register to run and/or walk and seek sponsors to raise money for our shelter. Teams are encouraged and there will be prizes for the top fundraiser and the top fundraising team.

The morning will also feature music, vendors, food trucks, and activities for the whole family. The highlight will be a Pet Talent/Costume Contest where pets are encouraged to show off their talents and cuteness. Dogs are welcome and must be on a standard leash. (Retractable leashes are not allowed.)

The run starts at 8 a.m., with placement and fun awards at 9:30 a.m. The “strut” starts at 10 a.m. and the Pet Talent/Costume Contest starts at 11. Tours of the shelter will follow, and the shelter will be open for adoptions.

Subaru of Fort Myers is the title sponsor for this event for the third year in a row, and they have been happy to help “Share the Love” which is part of their mission.

“Subaru of Fort Myers has been the title sponsor of WWWR from the beginning, and we are so grateful for their continued support.” said Executive Director, Liz McCauley.

“This has become Subaru of Fort Myers’ signature event for us, and having our pups go to their showroom and pose in their very pet-friendly vehicles has been a bonus!”

There will also be Subaru featured SUV and pet-friendly vehicles on display at WWWR.

“CCAS brings hope to South Florida’s homeless dogs and cats by understanding their needs and bringing an increased level of awareness to the intolerance of animal abuse in our community,” said Pamela Aubuchon, chairperson of Walk, Wiggle, Wag & Run and CCAS Board vice president. “This family-friendly, dog friendly event allows each of us to be part of our mission of making a difference for the animals of our community.”
