Senate budget bills would increase tuition
TALLAHASSEE(AP) – Senate appropriations committees have completed work on a series of budget bills.
The measures approved Wednesday include a tuition increase of 8 percent for community college and state university students.
Individual universities – but not community colleges – then could add another 7 percent for a total 15 percent increase.
One panel, though, balked at a proposal to increase property taxes in school districts that violate class-size limits and other state requirements.
The measures next will be combined into a single budget bill for a vote next week by the Senate Ways and Means Committee.
House committees still are working with preliminary budget plans that haven’t yet reached bill form.
