Florida Horror-Fest coming to Fort Myers Sept. 19
Dare to be scared in Southwest Florida next weekend?
On Saturday, Sept. 19, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Fort Myers, Florida Horror-Fest arrives from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Organizers are calling all horror fans, movie buffs, and pop culture collectors to indulge and be immersed in what is an event striving to be Florida’s best and truest horror convention featuring fandoms spanning multiple genres.
“Florida Horror-Fest is built by long-time collectors, for collectors,” said event organizers in a release. “Our goal is to give the Fort Myers community a focused, high-energy environment where they can hunt for their favorite memorabilia, meet industry professionals, and share their passions with thousands of local peers.”
Florida Horror-Fest is promises to be a dedicated mecca designed for every tier of fan — from vintage horror memorabilia seekers to modern thriller buffs. The convention will feature a sprawling marketplace packed with vendors, local artists, and exhibitors showcasing a massive variety of comic books, magazines, toys, movies, movie posters, artwork sketches, apparel, and more.
Event highlights include:
• The Horror Marketplace: Dozens of specialized vendors buying, selling, and trading rare horror collectibles, hard-to-find movie posters, and retro monster toys.
• Celebrity meet-and-greets: Fan-favorite industry professionals and celebrities will be in attendance for exclusive signings and photo opportunities throughout the day, featuring actor Warrington Gillette (Jason from “Friday the 13th Part 2”) and actor James C. Leary (Clem from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”).
• Family-accessible pricing: General admission is $20. Kids 11 and under are free to enter (limit one child per paid adult admission), and additional children 11 and under are $10.
There will also be a runway costume contest starting at 4 p.m. Contestants can enter in store-bought or homemade costumes.
Prizes will be awarded for best of show, best make-up, scariest costume, best classic horror, and best youth.
Think you know your stuff? There will also be a horror trivia panel during the event.
“We’ll be putting horror fans to the test with questions covering movies, monsters, slashers, characters, franchises, and plenty of other creepy corners of the genre,” organizers said. “Whether you’re the friend who always knows the obscure horror fact or you just want to see how much you remember from your favorite films, come join in and have some fun with other fans earlier in the day.”
