Next month’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
Adult Programs
Knit and Stitch
10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 19
A casual, self-guided group for knitting, crochet and other needle arts. Join in to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers. Personal instruction will not be available.
Mah Jongg Club
12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, 12, 19, 26
Join us for a social group playing American Mah Jongg. American Mah Jongg uses an annual card of Official Standard Hands and Rules, against which all games are played. These cards are available from the National Mah Jongg League.
Adult Crafternoon: Jellyfish Lamps
1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, 13
Noon Saturday, Aug. 8, 15
Join this two-part class and create a jellyfish lamp. All materials provided. Registration is required.
Tech Assistance at Your Library: One-on-One Help
2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11
Need help with a laptop, tablet, e-reader or other device? Are you looking to learn about accessing library e-resources? We can help with a 30-minute, one-on-one technology help session. Please have chargers and passwords for devices with you before the appointment. Registration is required.
The Book N’ Brew Society
10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12
Do you enjoy robust, engaging book discussions? Join us and share your latest reading recommendations. Tea and coffee will be served.
Coloring Club
2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22
Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring while making new friends. All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own coloring books.
LEGO Date Night
6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25
Want to do something out of the box for a date night? Join us and build some Lego. Building materials will be provided and each person can take home their own mini succulent. Registration required.
Children’s Programs
STEAM Meet-Up: Rhythm Painting
6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18
For ages 6-11 years. This month’s STEAM meet-up combines music and creativity as we paint, experiment and create artwork inspired by different rhythms and sounds. Please dress for a mess. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.
Read to Dogs
3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19
Join us at the library and read to dogs. These registered therapy animals volunteer with their owner/handler as a team to help kids practice reading. Participating children can read down their fines or just have fun reading to these furry friends. Bring your own book, find a favorite from the library collection or we can choose one for you. Upon arrival, please visit the Youth Desk to pick up a ticket to receive a time slot.
Preschool Block Party
10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 20
Children ages 2-5 years are invited to build, stack and create at our Preschool Block Party. We’ll provide the blocks and building materials, you bring your imagination.
Family Storytime
10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22
For children through age 5 years with caregiver. Enjoy books, rhymes, songs and activities. This fun and engaging program offers kids a chance to make friends and build skills through stories, music and movement. Caregivers participate with their children while learning helpful early literacy strategies and tips to continue at home.
Coloring Club
2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22
Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring while making new friends. All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own coloring books.
Baby Playdate
10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24
For babies through age 23 months. This special interactive program is designed for babies and their caregivers. This play date will include sensory toys, games and music to encourage a fun and bonding experience with your baby. Please dress babies for some messy play. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.
D&D 101
4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25
For ages 8-18 years. New to Dungeons & Dragons? This beginner-friendly session is for you. We’ll cover how the game works, how to role-play, build a character and how to use those funky dice. No experience needed. All materials provided; just bring your imagination and a sense of adventure.
Healthy Smiles Storytime with Pediatric Dentistry of Florida
10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27
For ages 2-5 years. Join us for a dental adventure with our friends from Pediatric Dentistry of Florida. We’ll read a tooth-themed story and explore oral hygiene through fun, interactive activities. Every child goes home with a free toothbrush and a coloring page. It’s the perfect way to build healthy habits and big smiles. No registration is required, though space and supplies are limited.
LEGO Club
1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29
Join us for fun, hands-on, brick-building activities. All materials are provided, just bring your creativity. This program is intended for children ages 3-11 years.
Books and Blankets
6:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31
Join us with your blankies and pajamas for this nighttime edition of storytime. Your whole family is invited to this enjoyable, all-ages storytime that encourages the development of pre-reading skills through songs, rhymes, fingerplays and stories.
Teen Programs
Back to School Button Making
4:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13
For ages 12-18 years. Head back to school in style. Drop by the library to design and create your own custom buttons with fun colors, doodles, school spirit, favorite fandoms and more. Make a few to decorate your backpack, jacket or pencil pouch as the new school year begins.
