FHP announces ‘Operation Red White & Blue Lights’

The Florida Highway Patrol’s Elite DUI Squad and the Aggressive Driving Unit will be conducting “Operation Red White & Blue Lights,” a specialized impaired driving enforcement initiative, beginning today, Friday, July 3, through Sunday, July 5, throughout Southwest Florida.

“While our country, communities and families come together to celebrate our nations Independence Day Weekend, Florida Highway Patrol State Troopers will be turning on their BLUE LIGHTS to stop impaired drivers, super speeders, and other traffic law violators in an effort to prevent tragedy’s before they occur,” the agency said in a release issued Thursday.

The goal of “Operation Red White & Blue Lights” is simple, officials said: Prevent crashes, save lives, and ensure everyone reaches their destination safely.

The Florida Highway Patrol reminds motorists:

• Never drive impaired

• Designate a sober driver

• Use rideshare services or public transportation

• Heads up, phones down

• Patience, patience, patience

• Buckle up every trip, every time

“Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious and fatal crashes. Through high-visibility enforcement and public awareness, troopers aim to deter dangerous behavior and protect all who travel Florida’s roadways during the busy holiday weekend.
