The American Legion State Conference hosted its 107th statewide convention June 11-14 at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., where American Legion Post 90 in Cape Coral won three prestigious awards.

Post 90 was awarded the winner of the Outstanding Post Scouting program based on the successful Boy and Girl Scout programs as well as Cub Scouts, the winner of the Best Shooting Sports program based on teaching marksmanship and gun safety in the Junior ROTC program, and the runner-up award for Best PR program.

About 3,000 American Legion members, along with spouses and family members, attended the convention. The large event offered something for everyone, including vendors, banquets, activities and classes. It also gave posts a valuable opportunity to share ideas and reconnect.

The American Legion, Department of Florida, has more than 130,000 members and over 300 posts statewide. During the convention, the department conducts annual business, elects new leadership, celebrates achievements and honors outstanding individuals and posts.

Nationally, the American Legion is a leading advocate for U.S. veterans’ benefits and provides support for the transition from military to civilian life, as well as career and education resources.

American Legion Post 90 was founded in April 2001. The post offers a full canteen and food service at its location on Southeast 47th Street in Cape Coral, and sponsors scholarships, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, blood drives, V.A. volunteers and national emergency funds programs to assist veterans in need.
