This year’s Lehigh Acres Rain Barrel Painting Contest was a huge success with more than 20 artists creating 15 rain barrels that will be auctioned off to help local seniors who are struggling to pay their utility bills.

This is the fifth year for this program, which is put on by FGUA, Lehigh Community Services and the Lehigh Acres Senior Center. The program brings together local artistic seniors who create pieces of art that also happen to be water conservation devices. These rain barrels – which are actually empty coke syrup barrels donated by Coke Florida – are then auctioned off and all the money raised, along with all sponsorship dollars, goes to helping local seniors.

This year’s winning artists are:

• Silvia Carletti, first place

• Kevin Lavarnway, second place

• Jen Wilson & Jo Borkert, third place

Anyone wanting to bid on one of the rain barrels can do so through May 18 at: fgua.com.
