Veterinary Assisting Dog Wash April 25 at Cape Coral Technical College

A Veterinary Assisting Dog Wash will be held Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Cape Coral Technical College Campus at 360 Santa Barbara Blvd., in Cape Coral. Follow the signs to the campus, which is located just north of the intersection at Pine Island Road.

The cost list $20 for small and medium dogs, and $30 for dogs 40 pounds and over. Cash only, please.

Ear cleaning and toenail trims included with the bath.

Stevens Construction begins renovation of Thrive Academy in Cape Coral

Stevens Construction has started a renovation of Thrive Academy for Family Initiative, announced Joseph Cimilluca, special projects division manager for Stevens Construction.

Stevens Construction’s special projects team is renovating an existing 7,824-square-foot building on Family Initiative’s Thrive Academy campus, located at 3221 Chiquita Blvd., in Cape Coral. By completely gutting the building and reconfiguring the floor plan, Thrive Academy will be able to expand educational opportunities for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Scheduled for completion in July, the renovated building will include seven classrooms, a staff childcare room, a STEM lab, sensory room and offices.

Thrive Academy is part of Family Initiative, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with ASD and their families through education, therapy and support, giving them the best opportunity to thrive.

Creus among cadets on UNG’s Army Small Arms Championship team

DAHLONEGA, Ga. — During spring break, the University of North Georgia Combat Action Shooting Team swept the top two spots in the cadet team division of the U.S. Army Small Arms Championship.

Team members included Keila Creus from Cape Coral.

As a team, CAST secured seven of the top 10 cadet positions, further demonstrating the depth and consistency of the program.

The University of North Georgia is a University System of Georgia leadership institution and is The Military College of Georgia. With 20,317 students, the University of North Georgia is one of the state’s largest public universities. The university offers more than 100 programs of study ranging from certificate and associate degrees to doctoral programs.

FSW’s Allbritten nominated for 2026 SWFL Citizen of the Year

Florida SouthWestern State College recently announced that Dr. Jeff Allbritten, president of FSW, has been nominated for the 2026 SWFL Citizen of the Year award, presented by SWFL Inc.

This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to improving the quality of life across Southwest Florida and advancing the economic vitality and overall well-being of the community. Dr. Allbritten’s leadership at FSW has been marked by a strong focus on student success, workforce development and meaningful partnerships that support regional growth.

The recipient of the 2026 SWFL Citizen of the Year award will be announced Tuesday, May 12. SWFL Inc., the region’s only Five-Star Accredited Chamber of Commerce, serves businesses across Lee, Collier and Charlotte counties.
