December programs set at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library

Next month’s roster of activities at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

 

Adult Programs

English Café

6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, 9, 16

10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 5, 12, 19

Free, informal conversation sessions for adult ESOL/ESL students.

 

Download Drop-In

11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, 18

Receive personalized help downloading eBooks, eAudioBooks, movies, music and more from Libby/OverDrive and hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s popular online content providers. Support also will be available to registered users of the National Library Service’s Braille and Audio Reading Download service (BARD) which is provided through Home Borrower Services and Lee County Talking Books.

Note: Attendees should bring their favorite tablet, e-reader or phone. Be sure it’s fully charged and also, have your passwords for downloading apps available. Kindle users also must have an Amazon account and password. Patrons interested in BARD should contact Talking Books at 239-533-4780 before attending to ensure they have an active account or find out how to set one up.

 

Beginner Spanish Class

2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10

This course is designed for those new to the Spanish language. Learn fundamental vocabulary, essential phrases and basic grammar in a fun, informal and interactive environment. Join us and learn the basics to start a conversation. Registration is required.

 

Crafts at Cape: Journals

2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 10

Get ready to start the New Year with a fresh journal assembled from a variety of supplies. The class has a maximum seating of 20. Registration is required and is guaranteed until the start of the program.

 

Holiday Jazz: A Crooner Christmas

2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 11

Celebrate the season with a lively holiday jazz performance featuring classic Christmas tunes made famous by Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Dean Martin, Michael Bublé and others. Performed live by jazz singer Shawn Paris. Registration is required.

 

Adult Coloring

2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 16

Gone are the days when coloring was just for kids. Adult coloring is a fun way to relax, spark your creativity and meet new people. Join us for a laid-back session where you can unwind and bring a picture to life with color. No need to be an artist. All skill levels welcome. Coloring pages designed especially for adults and colored pencils will be provided. Registration is required.

 

Children’s Programs

Pokémon Meet-Up

4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2

For ages 10-15 years. Level up your afternoon with a Pokémon meet-up packed with trading, battling and connecting with other fans. Your registration is only guaranteed until the start of the program. All materials and snacks provided while they last. This program is intended for attendees ages 10 – 15 years to attend independently while caregivers wait nearby. Please speak with staff if caregiver assistance is needed during the program. Registration is required.

 

Merry & Bright Baby Playdate

10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3

For babies through age 23 months. Celebrate the season with this special merry meet-up just for babies. Enjoy festive songs, winter activities and plenty of time to play and connect this holiday season. No registration is required, but space is limited to 40 babies plus their caregiver. Tickets available 30 minutes before start of program.

 

Family Build It

10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6

For all ages. Drop in for building challenges the whole family will enjoy. No registration required. All materials are provided.

 

Glow with the Elements

4 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9

For ages 5-11 years. Step into the world of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and train in Water, Earth, Fire and Air through interactive glow-in-the-dark activities, crafts and games. Which element will you master? Dress for mess. Registration is required and is only guaranteed until the start of the program. All materials provided.

 

Preschool Holiday Sing-Along with Shawn Paris

10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 11

Delight in a fun-filled holiday show just for kids, featuring jazz singer Shawn Paris performing beloved classics like “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and more. Registration is required.

 

Kids Read Down Fines

1 – 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6

5:15 – 6:15 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 17

Children and teens with overdue fines on their account, can reduce their fine by $2 for every 15 minutes they read during this program. Earn up to a maximum of $8 in one session. Credit will be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under and can be used only for overdue fines. Please bring your library card and check in at the Youth Desk.

 

Bibbidi Bobbidi Ball

10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 18

For ages 2-5 years. Hear ye, hear ye!  You are royally invited to the magical Bibbidi Bobbidi Ball, a fairytale-filled morning of music, dancing, games and sparkling crafts fit for any royalty. Dress in your finest royal attire — gowns, crowns, capes, and all — and get ready to twirl, giggle and play. Supplies while they last. No registration required.

 

Teen Programs

Unwrap your creativity. Teens will learn simple book folding techniques to create designs that celebrate the season. Holiday treats and supplies provided while they last. This program is intended for attendees ages 11 to 18 years to attend independently. Please speak with staff if caregiver assistance is needed.
