Next month’s roster of activities at Cape Coral-Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:
– Craft Corner: Knitting and Crocheting: 3:30 p.m. Mondays, May 2, 9, 16, 23
Make a handmade treasure. Materials will be provided, or bring a project to work on. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library. Registration is requested.
– Chess Anyone: 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31
Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Everyone is welcome. Bring a personal chess set, if preferred.
– English Caf: 6 p.m. Tuesdays, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31; 10 a.m. Fridays, May 6, 13, 20, 27
Practice English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not n necessary.
– Author Program – Sandy Lender: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7
A conversation with local fantasy fiction author Sandy Lender. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library.
– Beyond the Dawn: Amelia’s Last Flight: at noon Monday, May 9
Seventy-four years have passed since famed aviator Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan disappeared while attempting to fly around the world. David Helms has put years of research into a talk in which he reviews the known facts of the case and formulates plausible solutions to this enduring mystery.

– Bagels, Books and Banter: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 24

– Hurricane Preparedness Seminar: 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 25
Gerald Campbell, Chief of Planning, Lee County Emergency Operations Center (who determines if/when you evacuate), and Amy Hoyt, Lee County Emergency Operations GIS Manager give information needed to know in case of a hurricane.
– Kids Read Down Fines: 3:30-4:30 p.m. Thursdays, May 5, 19; 6 7 p.m.; Mondays, May 9, 16
Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and younger only.
