HB 803 permit rules have become effective
The City of Cape Coral would like to remind residents and contractors that Florida House Bill 803 has taken effect statewide as of July 1 and changes permit requirements for certain small residential projects.
House Bill 803 creates a narrow exemption from building permit requirements for certain small residential projects valued at under $7,500. However, because more than 60% of Cape Coral is in a FEMA-mapped Special Flood Hazard Area and the exemption does not apply to projects that include electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas, or structural work, this exemption will not apply to most projects in the city.
Property owners and licensed contractors are encouraged to review the city’s HB 803 guidance before starting any work they believe may qualify under the new law. Detailed information is available at CapeCoral.gov/HB803.
Residents and contractors who believe their project may qualify must submit an exemption request through the city’s online permitting system and receive approval before beginning construction.
