Mary Lou Sharpe was a lifetime resident of Florida and grew up on Pine Island/Matlacha.

On April 13, 2024, Sharpe, her loving partner Butch Gay and three others were victims of a horrible traffic accident while sitting outside That BBQ Place in Matlacha. Sadly, Sharpe lost her life in the accident, and Gay lost his partner of 16 years.

Island friends have created the Mary Lou Memorial Scholarship Fund to work in conjunction with the Matlacha Hookers Scholarship Fund providing money for local, island students to continue their education (trade school and college).

Sharpe and Gay have been so important to the fabric of this island, known and loved by so many of us. Please help honor her by donating to The Mary Lou Memorial Scholarship fund to help this community that she treasured so much.

Donations can be made at Centennial Bank on Pine Island, Street Eatz, Blue Dog Bar and Grill, and Eagles Nest. The Mattlee Crew will have a donation bin at locations where they are playing.

If you have questions or seek additional information, please text Tammey at (239) 209-7445. Make checks payable to the Matlacha Hookers; memo Mary Lou Scholarship Fund.
