Operation Green Light set for April 14-17
Lee Clerk of Court will waive 25% collections fee on overdue traffic tickets
Anyone with a suspended license or overdue traffic tickets may be eligible to get back on the road through the Lee County Clerk & Comptroller’s Operation Green Light.
During the annual event, those with cases in collections will be allowed to pay their court fees and fines without getting charged the 25% collection surcharge. Operation Green Light also offers special payment plans that are only available during the event.
Operation Green Light will take place April 14-17 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lee Clerk’s office at the Justice Center in downtown Fort Myers and the Cape Coral branch. On April 17, the final day of Operation Green Light, the Clerk’s office will be open until 6 p.m. at the Justice Center in downtown Fort Myers. Customers can also call 239-533-5000 (select option 2 to speak with a Clerk) or save time by scheduling an appointment at leeclerk.org/appointment. Since 2020, Operation Green Light has saved customers millions of dollars in collection fees, and thousands of people became eligible to get their licenses back.
Last year’s event in Lee County resulted in:
• 326 licenses reinstated
• 973 cases paid in-full
• $220,152 in collections and other fees waived
“Operation Green Light is a great opportunity for citizens to save money and get back behind the wheel,” said Lee County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller Kevin Karnes. “We are proud to host this event annually for our community, and I want to encourage anyone who has a suspended license, overdue traffic ticket or court case in collections to come to our office and participate in Operation Green Light.”
During Operation Green Light, customers may enter into an affordable monthly payment plan for traffic cases and criminal court fees. Cash, credit card, check and/or money order will be accepted. If paying with cash, we recommend bringing exact change. There is a fee to use a credit card. In addition to payment plans, community service opportunities are also an option for certain qualifying fines.
Customers need to clear any cases in other counties too if they intend to reinstate their license. Hours and dates of other Operation Green Light events around the state can be found at flclerks.com/GreenLight.
Additional fees to the Tax Collector are required to reinstate a driver license. For questions about driver license reinstatements, visit the Tax Collector’s website at leetc.com.
