Chairman and CEO of Kitson & Partners and Founder of Babcock Ranch Syd Kitson said it’s really exciting as Babcock Ranch keeps growing and growing.
“When you have an opening of Yellow Pines as an example, it just adds to the pieces of the puzzle pulling the new town together,” he said.
Kitson said having the urgent care and Tampa General taking a big position at Babcock Ranch, as well as Lee Health, is a great signal for people.
TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track is a partnership with Tampa General Hospital. The clinic provides comprehensive treatment for common illnesses and injuries as well as school and sports physicals, X-rays and specific lab tests. There is another medical facility scheduled to open next year that will offer specific needs determined by resident focus groups.
“We’re proud to celebrate this milestone alongside the Babcock Ranch community,” said John Couris, president and CEO of Tampa General Hospital, in a prepared statement. “We’re excited to be part of the incredible growth happening here, and the opening of our TGH Urgent Care powered by Fast Track location at Yellow Pine makes it easier than ever for residents and visitors to access convenient, high-quality health care close to home.”
Shoppes at Yellow Pines fulfils the daily needs people have including medical, Kitson said.
“The whole idea is for people to never have to leave. We are getting close,” he said. “Education, or the need for groceries, house goods, restaurants, bars and all the things people want to participate in, and need, is all right here at Babcock,” he said.
There are other areas of Babcock Ranch that are still growing, such as B Street, which Kitson said is opening in a year with more restaurants, retail opportunities, a lifestyle center and new office space.
He said Florida Gulf Coast University is going to build a 125,000-square-foot building in Midtown, a new section, which will also include apartments. There is also another grocery anchor shopping center in the mix.
“It’s another big 140,000-square-foot shopping center coming into Midtown,” Kitson said.
He said he does not think people realize how many people who live around Babcock Ranch use the shopping centers.
“Locals also use it and that is why we keep having to build more. The people that surround us no longer have to drive 20 miles to go somewhere. They can do it right here at Babcock,” Kitson said.
The vision, he said, is not only exactly what he hoped for Babcock Ranch, but much better.
“What makes Babcock special are the people,” he said.
