Southwest Florida International Airport receives $25 million FAA grant
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $24.9 million to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers. This grant comes from the Airport Infrastructure Grants program and will be used for concourse, taxiway and aircraft apron improvements. Additionally, the grant will help expand the airport’s Terminal Access Road, by adding an off ramp and three traffic lanes, to accommodate more vehicle traffic transporting passengers to and from the airport.
“These funds are essential to the future growth at Southwest Florida International Airport,” said Steven C. Hennigan, C.M., A.C.E., executive director and CEO of the Lee County Port Authority. “As we begin the work to add a new concourse at RSW, we will need to make sure travelers can move smoothly and safely from their cars to the terminal building and this funding will help meet that goal.”
The Airport Infrastructure Grant program is one of three aviation grant programs created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. To date, nearly $9 billion of the $15 billion total of AIG funding has been made available to airports across the country.
