American Legion Post 90 launches emergency relief drive
Effort to aid Panhandle communities impacted by Hurricane Isaias
American Legion Post 90 in Cape Coral has mobilized an emergency disaster relief campaign to collect critical supplies in the wake of Hurricane Isaias.
Organized in coordination with the American Legion Southwest Florida District, the effort focuses on delivering essential supplies to fellow veterans, families, and residents across hardest-hit American Legion Posts in the Panhandle.
“Having endured major tropical storms in Southwest Florida, Post 90 leadership recognizes the critical 72-hour window where basic recovery supplies are urgently needed on the ground,” a release issued this morning by the post states.
“Districts 1 and 2 need our help,” said Ed Lyons, Post 90 Commander in a prepared statement. “While damage assessments are underway, our comrades are without power and essential supplies. We know what this devastation feels like, and we know how much community support means during recovery. We are calling upon all Legionnaires, auxiliary members, families, and neighbors throughout Cape Coral and Lee County to rally with us for our Panhandle family.”
American Legion Post 90 is requesting donations of new, unopened, and non-perishable goods, specifically:
• Clean drinking water: Bottled water by the case or gallon jugs.
• Cleaning & recovery supplies: Heavy-duty trash bags, tarps, bleach, disinfectant wipes, mops, brooms, work gloves, and bug spray.
• Power & emergency gear: Portable generators, heavy-duty extension cords, fuel cans, flashlights, and batteries (AA, AAA, D).
• Non-perishable food: Canned meats, ready-to-eat meals, peanut butter, granola bars, and manual can openers.
Donations may be dropped off at American Legion Post 90 after 11 a.m. daily.
“We are coordinating directly with regional Posts to ensure every item brought to Post 90 is efficiently staged, loaded, and delivered right into the hands of the families and posts that need it most,” said Rich Lomeli, Post 90 webmaster and publicist. “When a disaster strikes fellow Floridians, the American Legion responds. We invite the entire Cape Coral community to stand with us.”
