The North Fort Myers service center will close at the end of July, with a future Lee County Tax Collector’s Office set to open at the end of the year near Page Field.

The center in North Fort Myers will close on July 31 as the preparations continue for the new Colonial Service Center at 2116 Colonial Blvd., across the street from the AutoNation Toyota.

With the facility’s lease set to expire in August 2027, the agency is taking time to prepare equipment, technology, and other resources for the Colonial Service Center office. This will give the agency the ability to reuse existing equipment and furnishings, which will reduce unnecessary costs, officials said

Positions have not been eliminated due to this change and no services have been cut, officials said.

“This is a practical decision that allows us to make the best use of the resources we already have,” Noelle Branning, Lee County Tax Collector, said in a prepared statement. “Since we knew, we would eventually need to leave the current location, this approach gives us time to transition equipment and technology in an organized way, reduce unnecessary costs, and continue focusing on what matters most: serving our customers.”

Spokesperson Lauren Bernaldo said there are five locations throughout the county, all of which will remain open. The two service centers closest to the north office are in Cape Coral at 1039 S.E. 9th Ave., and Downtown Fort Myers, at 2480 Thompson St.

“Downtown is about four miles away, and Cape is six,” she said.

Bernaldo said from July 1, 2025, through May 31, 2026, the Tax Collector’s Office issued 61,698 customer tickets at the North Fort Myers Service Center. The transactions during that same time frame were 84,113.

The transaction services includes Department of Motor Vehicles, 52,042; Driver License, 25,115; tax, 3,141, and hunting and fishing licenses, 108.

Transaction numbers will be higher because people can perform more than one transaction when they visit, she said.
