A Cape Coral Rowing Club’s Women’s Pair took home the silver at Regionals this past weekend.

Brooke Bunch and Sofia Mayus, who won the Florida State Championship in this event two weeks ago, will now move on to race in youth rowing’s biggest event — the USRowing’s Youth National Championship Regatta.

USRowing’s Southeast Regional Championship Regatta was held Mother’s Day weekend at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota.

This race draws competitors from seven states in the southeast plus Puerto Rico, New Orleans and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The 2026 regatta included 54 clubs and 490 race entries.

Bunch and Mayus placed second in the regional championship, earning a bid to Nationals.

To race Youth Nationals, athletes must qualify in their respective regional championship regatta. These races are held in six regions across the nation — Southwest, Central, Mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Northwest, and Northeast.

In 2025, Youth National Championships featured 230 rowing clubs racing in 881 events.

This year, the regatta will once again be held at Nathan Benderson Park with the 2026 competition taking place from June 11 through June 14.
