Lee County has issued mandatory evacuations for all of Evacuation Zone A and B in advance of Hurricane Ian’s approach.

The county has issued these orders for the barrier islands, including Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel, Captiva, Pine Island and low-lying areas, including parts of Cape Coral south of Veterans Parkway.

Officials said the county will open some of its shelters for evacuees who do not have other locations in which to stay.

Evacuation Zone A includes islands and all coastal areas. Only parts of Evacuation Zone B have been called this time. For Cape Coral residents, that is much of the south Cape.

Editor’s Note: This story has been updated. The evacuation has been expanded to include all of Zone B.
