More volunteers needed for food drive
Additional volunteers are needed to assist in the Saturday, May 9, National Letter Carriers 17th annual food drive. The volunteers will assist Harry Chapin Food Bank supervisors on post office loading docks in unloading mail carrier vehicles and completing a presort of the donated food.
Volunteers are needed to assist in two Cape Coral locations as well as the Page Field Post Office. They need to be able to work from 3-6 p.m. This would be an ideal opportunity for those needing community service volunteer hours. Both individuals and groups interested in volunteering should contact Marta Hodson, 239-334-7007, extension 32, or e-mail her at martahodson@harrychapinfood bank.org.
Postal customers are asked to place non-perishable food items in the plastic bags being provided by Publix Supermarkets by their mailboxes prior to their regular mail delivery on May 9.
All food being donated on May 9 will be sent to the Harry Chapin Food Bank’s warehouse for further sorting and distribution to its 167 participating non-profit agencies, which provide food to more than 20,000 people monthly. The food bank needs to receive 300,000 pounds of food this year during this, the nation’s largest one-day food drive. All food received will stay in Lee County.
