FMPD continues to remove guns from the street
The Fort Myers Police Department is continuing its crack down on people who illegally carry firearms. Undercover vice and uniformed patrol removed 24 guns from city streets for the month of March.
Operation Safe Neighborhood is a proactive approach to reduce crime and improve quality of life in the City of Fort Myers. The goal is to identify and arrest people that commit violent crimes and to arrest individuals who illegally possess firearms.
In addition to gun interdiction the directed patrols have had positive results:
– 835 Citizen Contacts
– 342 Traffic Stops
– 103 Traffic Tickets
– 68 Arrests
– 59 Felony Charges
So far police have removed 95 guns from city streets this year.
