Sign language courses available in Cape
The Sally J. Pimentel Deaf & Hard of Hearing Center (DHHC) will offer an American Sign Language (ASL) Level 1 class from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Cape Coral Caring Center in Cape Coral.
The Tuesday classes will begin Sept. 29, and the Thursday classes will begin Oct. 1.
Both options are a five-week course.
Open to the public, the classes are designed for individuals with no prior signing experience.
“Learning American Sign Language opens your world,” said DHHC Executive Director Amy Turner said. “ASL can be a valuable communication resource for people living with hearing loss, while also helping families, friends and communities build stronger connections.”
The course is $75 for the public, free for Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, and discounted for immediate family members.
Classes are also offered at locations in Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Port Charlotte.
ASL instruction is offered in five levels. All materials are included and participants receive a certificate of accomplishment upon completion. Those who register for all five at once receive a reduced rate.
