Alliance for the Arts’ October exhibitions explore discovery, transformation and the passage of time
Alliance for the Arts will welcome three new exhibitions in October, bringing together a diverse collection exploring the many meanings of “passage,” an immersive digital installation examining memory and technology, and mixed-media works inspired by everyday discoveries.
The exhibitions open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 2 and remain on view through Oct. 31. Guests are invited to experience the new exhibitions, meet participating artists and enjoy complimentary appetizers catered by Jayne and Brian Baker. The reception is free and open to the public at Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers.
In the Member Gallery, Selected Works by Marian Fuller focuses on the beauty hidden within everyday life. Fuller transforms found and recycled materials into richly textured works that invite viewers into a state of discovery. Inspired by neighborhood walks, international travel, thrift stores and overlooked objects, her compositions encourage viewers to look beyond the familiar and uncover unexpected meaning in ordinary things. Working with handmade paper, reclaimed materials, shredded credit cards and other found objects, Fuller embraces experimentation and sustainability, allowing each piece to tell its own story through layers of texture and detail. Visitors are encouraged to look closely and discover the subtle surprises woven throughout the collection, reflecting the joy and sense of adventure that define Fuller’s creative process.
The Main Gallery will feature Passage: A Themed Members Show, bringing together a diverse selection of original works by Alliance member artists. Artists were invited to interpret the theme through literal or abstract ideas of transition, movement, transformation and emotional or psychological change. The works consider everything from shifting seasons and aging to physical journeys, symbolic crossings and the spaces between where we have been and where we are going.
Passage offers a wide range of artistic perspectives and approaches. Representational paintings capture moments of place, time and personal experience, while fantastical and imaginative works blur the boundaries between reality and possibility. Paintings, collages, mixed-media compositions and text-based works come together to expand the ways passage can be understood and expressed. The works reveal passage as both a physical and deeply personal experience, inviting viewers to pause and reflect on the continual movement and transformation that shape our lives.
In the Foulds Theatre Gallery, artist Dahye Kim presents Time no Time, an immersive installation exploring time and memory as processes of becoming, dissolving and re-emerging. Drawing from photographs taken during Kim’s travels and ideas developed over the past six years across natural landscapes in the United States, the exhibition examines shifting perceptions of presence, memory and temporality in digital space. Kim uses video, photography, light, sound and reflective screens to create an environment where past, present and future converge. Subtle color shifts, horizon-like lines and changing light blur the boundaries between the physical and virtual, inviting viewers to experience time as something fluid and constantly unfolding.
The October exhibitions will be on view Oct. 2-31 at Alliance for the Arts, 10091 McGregor Blvd., Fort Myers. Gallery admission is free.
