South Cape businesses to mark National Blood Donor Month with blood drive boosted with discounts, freebies
Cape residents can help save lives next weekend while getting discounts to nearly three dozen businesses.
The South Cape Hospitality and Entertainment Association will host a Lee Health blood drive on Saturday, Jan 31, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bus will be parked in front of BackStreets Sports Bar on Southeast 47th Terrace.
“SCHEA has proudly partnered with Lee Health for years, hosting quarterly blood drives, so supporting this cause is very close to our hearts,” said SCHEA spokesperson Shannon Quinn. “We know how critical a stable blood supply is for our community and we wanted to do our part to help meet that need. Every donation stays right here in Lee County and directly benefits our neighbors, friends and families. This drive is simply an extension of our ongoing commitment to giving back and supporting the health of our community.”
While Lee Health officials said the need for blood is not currently critical, January is the perfect month for those who wish to donate to do so.
“While we are not currently facing an urgent blood shortage, the need for blood never stops,” said Jeremy Puckett, director of Lee Health Blood Center. “As the sole provider of blood products for Lee Health, our Blood Center depends on regular, ongoing donations to ensure lifesaving care is always available for patients across Southwest Florida. January is National Blood Donor Month, and it’s an important reminder that a single donation can make a profound difference, helping trauma patients, cancer patients, surgical patients, and so many others when they need it most.”
Donors at the South Cape drive will receive a punch card with various deals, freebies, and discounts to 21 local businesses.
“The response from local businesses was incredible,” Quinn said.
Many were eager to participate and offered discounts without hesitation. It really speaks to how strong and supportive our local business community is.”
