Next month’s roster of activities at Northwest Regional Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Tabletop & Mah Jongg Club

12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 10, 17

Meet up at the library for an afternoon of modern tabletop games. The library has a rotating collection of light- to medium-weight board games or bring your own to teach and share. Some knowledge of the game is required to join our American Mah Jongg game. If you have your own set, we’d love for you to bring it along with a current card from the National Mah Jongg League.

Knit and Stitch

9 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 17

A casual, self-guided group for knitting, crochet and other needle arts. Join in to share projects, ideas and techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their own projects and tools. Basic materials and supplies are available for newcomers. Personal instruction will not be available.

Tech Assistance at Your Library: One-on-One Help

2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9

Need help with a laptop, tablet, e-reader or other device? Are you looking to learn about accessing library e-resources? We can help with a 30-minute, one-on-one technology help session. Please have chargers and passwords for devices with you before the appointment. Registration is required.

The Book N’ Brew Society

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10

Do you enjoy robust, engaging book discussions? Join us and share your latest reading recommendations. Tea and coffee will be served.

Adult Crafternoon: Unearth Your Own Dino Buddy

1 p.m. Thursday, June 11

Come mold your own dinosaur using polymer or air-dry clay. Accessories and dioramas are welcome to give your dino their own personality or dwelling. Supplies are limited. Registration is required.

Coloring Club

2 p.m. Saturday, June 13

Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring while making new friends. All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own coloring books.

250 Years of America and Celebrating the 4th of July

1 p.m. Monday, June 29

Learn about the traditions celebrating the 4th of July from the founders to today. Maybe these traditions can be used in your upcoming celebration? This program is part of the America250 celebration.

Children’s Programs

Baby Rhyme Time

10:30 a.m. Monday, June 8, 15, 22

For babies through age 18 months with caregiver. Wiggle and giggle to bond with your baby through books, rhymes and songs in this lap-sit program that introduces early literacy skills and encourages language, motor and social skills. Each program offers literacy tips and strategies to stimulate your baby’s brain development and enhance future reading success.

Big Stories, Big Science with IMAG

6 p.m. Tuesday, June 9

For ages 6-11 years. IMAG joins the library for a fiery summer reading program. Get ready for a messy, hair-raising, explosive, freezing and thrilling show. Watch IMAG create colorful fireballs, ignite giant Whoosh Tubes, light bubbles on fire in their hands, erupt a giant bubbling Nitrogen cloud, create arcs of lightning with their Van de Graff Machine and more. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

Community Helper Storytime: Cape Coral Fire Department

10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 11

For children through age 5 years. Meet our hometown heroes and tour a fire truck. The Cape Coral Fire Department will join us for this special event featuring songs, stories and safety tips. No registration is required, but space is limited.

Read to Dogs

11 a.m. Saturday, June 13

Join us at the library and read to dogs. These registered therapy animals volunteer with their owner/handler as a team to help kids practice reading. Participating children can read down their fines or just have fun reading to these furry friends. Bring your own book, find a favorite from the library collection or we can choose one for you. Upon arrival, please visit the Youth Desk to pick up a ticket to receive a time slot.

Kids Read Down Fines

11 a.m. – Noon Saturday, June 13

Children and teens with overdue fines can reduce their fine by $2 for every 15 minutes they read during this program. Each child can earn up to a maximum of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to overdue fines on cards issued to patrons under the age of 18 as well as overdue fines for juvenile and teen materials checked out on their behalf on adult cards. Credit earned may only be used for overdue fines. Please bring your library card and check in at youth desk.

Coloring Club

2 p.m. Saturday, June 13

Join us for a relaxing afternoon of coloring while making new friends. All supplies will be provided, but feel free to bring your own coloring books.

Dino Academy: A Dinosaur Discovery Show

6 p.m. Tuesday, June 16

For ages 6-11 years. Led by the quirky and curious Dr. Sarah Tops, this action-packed summer reading adventure uncovers fascinating dinosaur facts that will wow even the biggest dino fans. Featuring lifelike, colorful dinosaur puppets that stomp, roar and charm their way into every heart, this show blends science, storytelling and imagination in the style of your favorite nature programs. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

A Royal Storytime

10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 18

For children through age 5 years. Experience magical moments at our Royal Storytime. This enchanting summer reading program is filled with fun while listening to stories, singing songs and participating in princess and knight training to become royalty. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

Professor Universe: The Dino Who Dunnit

6 p.m. Tuesday, June 23

For ages 6-11 years. Join us for a fun, playful, and interactive experience as Professor Universe dreams of dinosaurs still being around. In this paleo-mystery, kids will learn about the carbon cycle, and how its past disruptions have caused extinctions on the earth, while we rock out with a T-rex, too. Dinosaurs, science, and comedy all wrapped into one epic summer reading tale. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

Learn, Play & Grow with Healthy Start of SWFL

10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25

For ages 2 months to 5 years. Join us for our Learn, Play and Grow program in partnership with Healthy Start of SWFL. During this summer reading program, free developmental screenings are offered for children ages 2 months – 5 years. Join us at the library where your child can enjoy crafts, books, toys and games that help them learn and grow while parents can ask questions and receive helpful resources. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

LEGO Club

1 p.m. Saturday, June 27

Join us for fun, hands-on, brick-building activities. All materials are provided, just bring your creativity. This program is intended for children ages 3-11 years.

Teen Programs

Jurassic Terrarium

4 p.m. Wednesday, June 10

For ages 12-18 years Travel back in time and create your own mini prehistoric world using plants, stones and mini dinos. All supplies provided. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

Adams Animal Encounters: Reptiles Revealed – Teen Edition

4 p.m. Wednesday, June 17

For ages 12-18 years. Teens will learn about exotic animals in this engaging summer reading program with Adam’s Animal Encounters. Get an up-close perspective on wildlife management, rescue and conservation efforts in our area. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.

Unearthed Art Cards

4 p.m. Wednesday, June 24

For ages 12-18 years. Join us for a mini art workshop with local artist Jeff Ocasio of Ocasiocasa. Jeff will demonstrate his sculptural techniques with masking tape and each student will get to create their own sculpted art trading cards in this creative summer reading program. Registration is required and is guaranteed only until the start of the program.
