Next month’s roster of activities at Cape Coral Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

Adult Programs

Download Drop-In

11 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 16

Receive personalized help downloading eBooks, eAudioBooks, movies, music and more from Libby/OverDrive and hoopla, two of Lee County Library System’s popular online content providers. Support also will be available to registered users of the National Library Service’s Braille and Audio Reading Download service (BARD) which is provided through Home Borrower Services and Lee County Talking Books. Note: Attendees should bring their favorite tablet, e-reader or phone. Be sure it’s fully charged and have your passwords for downloading apps available. Kindle users also must have an Amazon account and password. Patrons interested in BARD should contact Talking Books at 239-533-4780 before attending to ensure they have an active account or find out how to set one up.

Crafts at Cape: Paper Beads

A great recycling project. Learn to turn old magazines and picture books into beads that can then be used for jewelry. Each class has a maximum seating of 20. Participants may only register for one class in the series. Registration is guaranteed until the start of the program.

Book Discussion: “The Mango Tree” by Annabelle Tometich

11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3

The Mango Tree is a poignant and deceptively entertaining memoir of growing up as a mixed-race Filipina “nobody” in Fort Myers, Florida, as Annabelle traces the roots of her upbringing, all the while reckoning with her father’s untimely death, her fiery mother’s bitter yearning for the country she left behind and her own journey in the pursuit of belonging.

Beginner Spanish Class

2 p.m. Wednesday, June 10

This course is designed for those new to the Spanish language. Learn fundamental vocabulary, essential phrases and basic grammar in a fun, informal and interactive environment. Join us and learn the basics to start a conversation. Registration is required.

Children’s Programs

Cape Coral Summer Reading Kickoff Party

2 p.m. Thursday, June 4

Kick off Summer Reading with a ROAR-some party at the library. Families are invited to stomp, chomp and explore with crafts, a special guest appearance from stilt walker and balloon artist Way Too Tall Torrie and plenty of prehistoric surprises. Children and teens can pick out a free book and sign up for the Summer Reading program. For children and teens through age 18 years. No registration is required, but space and supplies are limited.

Kids Read Down Fines

1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 13

Children and teens with overdue fines can reduce their fine by $2 for every 15 minutes they read during this program. Each child can earn up to a maximum of $8 in one session. Credit may be applied to overdue fines on cards issued to patrons under the age of 18 as well as overdue fines for juvenile and teen materials checked out on their behalf on adult cards. Credit earned may only be used for overdue fines. Please bring your library card and check in at the Youth Desk.

Roar & Explore: Dino Playdate

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 10

For babies through age 23 months. Move, crawl and stomp during this playful dinosaur-themed playdate with simple movement, hands-on toys and open space for little explorers. No registration is required, but space is limited to 40 babies plus their caregiver. Tickets available 30 minutes before start of program.

Adam’s Animal Encounters: Reptiles Revealed

2 p.m. Thursday, June 11

For ages 6-11 years. Discover and learn about exotic animals in this engaging summer reading program with Adam’s Animal Encounters. Get an up-close perspective on wildlife management, rescue and conservation efforts in our area. Registration is required and is valid only until the start of the program. Please arrive 15 minutes early to guarantee your spot in the program.

A Royal Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 17

For children through age 5 years. Experience magical moments at our Royal storytime. This enchanting summer reading program is filled with fun while listening to stories, singing songs and participating in princess and knight training to become royalty. No registration required, but space is limited to 40 children plus their caregiver. Tickets available 30 minutes before start of program.

Dino Academy: A Dinosaur Discovery Show

2 p.m. Thursday, June 18

For ages 6-11 years. Led by the quirky and curious Dr. Sarah Tops, this action-packed summer reading adventure uncovers fascinating dinosaur facts that will wow even the biggest dino fans. Featuring lifelike, colorful dinosaur puppets that stomp, roar and charm their way into every heart, this show blends science, storytelling and imagination in the style of your favorite nature programs. Registration is required and is valid only until the start of the program. Please arrive 15 minutes early to guarantee your spot in the program.

Community Helper Storytime: Naples Therapeutic Riding Center

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24

For children through age 5 years. The Naples Therapeutic Riding Center will share their Mini Horse Program which encourages literacy and brings therapeutic benefits to children through calm, connection and joy. This engaging summer reading storytime will create lasting memories with a visit from a special guest mini horse. Naples Therapeutic Riding Center serves children and adults with physical, social and mental health needs through the help of horses. No registration required, but space is limited to 40 children plus their caregiver. Tickets available 30 minutes before start of program.

Professor Universe: The Dino Who Dunnit

2 p.m. Thursday, June 25

For ages 6-11 years. Join us for a fun, playful and interactive experience as Professor Universe dreams of dinosaurs still being around. In this paleo-mystery, kids will learn about the carbon cycle and how its past disruptions have caused extinctions on the earth, while we rock out with a T-rex, too. Dinosaurs, science and comedy all wrapped into one epic summer reading tale. Registration is required and is valid only until the start of the program. Please arrive 15 minutes early to guarantee your spot in the program.

Unearthed Art Cards

2 p.m. Tuesday, June 9

For ages 12-18 years. Join us for a mini art workshop with local SW artist Jeff Ocasio of Ocasiocasa. Jeff will demonstrate his sculptural techniques with masking tape and each student will get to create their own sculpted art trading cards in this creative summer reading program. Registration is required.

Sanibel SEA Lab – Discover Mangrove Ecosystems

2 p.m. Tuesday, June 16

For ages 12-18 years. Uncover what makes Southwest Florida’s mangroves so important at this hands-on learning summer reading program. Did you know these salt-adapted trees provide essential habitat for a wide variety of wildlife? Observe mangrove-associated creatures up-close and discover why mangroves create such a perfect habitat. Turn your learning into action by joining SCCFs in its effort to restore mangrove habitat in Southwest Florida. Registration is required.

Discover Bunny Yoga and Mindfulness

2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23

For ages 12-18 years. This summer reading program begins with a 10-minute vibe check where we introduce mindful breathing and check-in with our bodies and minds. Practice includes various movements and deep breathing, with the last 10 minutes being full relaxation. Bunnies will be free-roaming and you will be able to gently pet and interact with them. Bring a towel or yoga mat. Dress for comfort. Registration is required.
