Sanibel and Captiva will reuse the 2024 hurricane permits for the upcoming storm season.

Any older passes from the city are no longer valid and can be discarded.

Property owners, residents and businesses need to apply for the Hurricane Re-Entry Permits in case an evacuation is ordered. The intent of the passes is to maximize security, while providing authorized persons the quickest possible access to their properties.

Sanibel and Captiva are broken down into a number of reentry zones. The zones are numbered from the reentry access point — the Sanibel Causeway tollbooth — then from Sanibel on through to Captiva.

The residential (green) permit is for residents and property owners on Sanibel and Captiva. It can be obtained with a valid ID with one’s Sanibel or Captiva address or a valid ID with another proof of residence. No more than two passes will be issued.

The commercial (red) permit is issued to businesses operating on Sanibel and Captiva with a Sanibel Business Tax Receipt, Lee County Business License or state of Florida DBPR. No more than two passes will be issued.

Acquiring a permit requires a short application and specific documentation.
