Lee County school closed due to swine flu

By Staff | May 1, 2009

The School District of Lee County will close Spring Creek Elementary next week due to a confirmed case of the swine flu in an 11-year-old student.

The closure will give staffers time to disinfect public areas and also will allow time – nine days including weekends – for some isolation of those exposed to the virus.

Florida now has two CDC laboratory confirmed cases of swine flu, including the one in Lee County. A second local case, also at Spring Creek, is suspected.

People with respiratory illness should stay home from work or school to avoid spreading infections, including influenza, to others in the community, Lee County Health Department officials stated.
