Lee Health brings urologic oncologist to Southwest Florida

Dr. Joseph Klink has joined Lee Physician Group Urology to create and lead its urologic oncology department.

Lee Health has expanded its service lines to include comprehensive urologic oncologic care. The community will have immediate access to all aspects of urologic oncology care and will not need to travel to receive treatments, surgery, and follow-up care.

Klink brings extensive experience in urologic oncology and cares for all stages of cancer, from diagnosis through early treatments and advanced cancers.

He previously spent the past nine years as the director of urologic oncology and robotics at Deaconess Health System in Evansville, Indiana, and has completed more than 1,000 robotic surgeries.

Klink graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Duke University Medical Center and fellowship in urologic oncology at the Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urologic and Kidney Institute. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and a member of the American Urologic Association and American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Heart Health Fair at Lee Health Coconut Point’s Healthy Life Center

February is American Heart Month, which is a time to bring awareness to focusing on cardiovascular health.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for people in the United States.

Lee Health is committed to promoting heart health in Southwest Florida, and is hosting a Heart Health Fair for the community on Friday, February 17.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lee Health Coconut Point’s Healthy Life Center, located at 23450 Via Coconut Point in Estero.

The Heart Health Fair will feature resources – such as a hands-only (just chest compressions) CPR demonstration – and several programs, including:

• 10 to 11 a.m.: Strategies for Success with Heart Failure

The public will learn about heart failure and the steps that patients and caretakers can take to manage the condition as it relates to their physical and emotional health.

• 10 to 11 a.m.: Outdoor Strength, Balance and Stretch

Outdoor Strength, Balance and Stretch will help attendees incorporate chair exercises into their daily routines to strengthen the body, improve alignment and expand mobility.

• Noon to 1 p.m.: Lunch & learn: Women and Heart Disease with Dr. Joann Journigan

Dr. Journigan, a cardiologist with Lee Health, will discuss risk factors that women face for heart disease, different types of interventions and their gender risks, and what women can do to protect themselves.

• 1:15 to 1:30 p.m. & 1:40 to 1:55 p.m.: Outdoor Meditation

The introduction to outdoor meditation classes is open to all members of the community and it will help attendees focus their attention and eliminate stress.

• 2 to 2:30 p.m.: Cooking Demo: Heart Health

The cooking demonstration for keeping your kitchen heart healthy will help the community learn to reduce the risks for heart and vascular disease through heart-healthy recipes.

The Preserve promotes Richard to assistant administrator

The Preserve, a skilled nursing, assisted living and memory care community in Fort Myers, has promoted Sarah Richard, MHA, LNHA, to assistant administrator.

In this role, Richard’s responsibilities include oversight of planning, organization, operations and management, financial resources, human resources and leadership. A primary function is helping lead day-to-day operations of The Preserve’s Care Center in accordance with federal, state and local standards, as well as company practices and policies.

The Preserve, which is operated by the nonprofit Volunteers of America, offers private skilled nursing suites for senior residents with specialized or advanced health care needs, as well as boutique assisted living apartments and memory support suites.

Prior to her promotion, Richard was director of social services at The Preserve and also held roles as interim director of admissions and interim director of marketing. Previously, Richard was director of client services for the Area Agency on Aging for Southwest Florida, and was a social service director and social service assistant at Consulate Healthcare.

Richard earned a bachelor of science degree in human services from Old Dominion University and a master of Ssience degree in health care administration from Hodges University. She is a licensed nursing home administrator through the Florida Department of Health and a certified assisted living administrator through the Florida Department of Elder Affairs.
