A Cape Coral couple’s Valentine’s Day hat trick surely topped any exchange of candy, flowers or jewelry Tuesday.

The couple, Carmela and Bryce Valentine, welcomed their first child at Cape Coral Hospital.

Little Amelia Ryan Valentine made her arrival at 2:12 p.m., all pink-cheeked and weighing in at 6 pounds, 7 1/2 ounces.

Amelia’s expected birthday was to be Feb. 21, when her mom was scheduled for a C-section.

“At first I thought it was pretty corny but then, when she went into real labor and her water broke, I thought, I guess she wants to be born on Valentine’s Day,” Bryce said of his daughter.

Amelia’s chosen birthday, though, has more than the significance of a shared name with the holiday – Carmela and Bryce had their first date on a Valentine’s Day past.

Dad was asked what he thought of this year’s celebration.

He laughed.

“I think it’s the best one I’ve had so far, second to my wife and I dating for the first time on Valentine’s Day five years ago,” Bryce said.

The couple met at Cape Coral Hospital when the two were student nurses and working there as CNAs. They still are employed by Lee Health.

“We came back to Cape Coral Hospital to have our baby there,” Bryce said.

Also present for the birth were paternal grandparents, Brett and Holly Valentine, paternal great-grandmother Sharon Pollard, and maternal grandmother Esther Adajar. Amelia is the Valentines’ first grandchild and Adajar’s fifth.
