Tritons Mercer, Wiskur and Tantay earn top spots in district weightlifting

DISTRICT 2A-14

Two Mariner weightlifters won their weight classes in the traditional division and a third Triton took first place in the Olympic division at Thursday’s District 2A-14 competition at Fort Myers High School.

Dominic Mercer lifted a total of 400 pounds to take the 139-pound weight class, while Benajmen Wiskur lifted 610 pounds at 199 pounds.

Mercer and Wiskur also placed second in Olympic lifting.

Nolan Tantay of the Tritons took the 199-pound Olympic class with a total of 500 pounds. Tantay was fourth in the traditional lift.

The Tritons’ Sam Khang came in fourth at 129 pounds in both traditional and Olympic events.

Also placing fourth in traditional were Ranger Fernandez (119 pounds) of Ida Baker, Vincent Miranda (154) of Cape Coral, Jacob Preshard (tied at 169) of the Bulldogs and Ida Baker’s Cutler Carson (183).

In the Olympic lifting competition, Rangel Fernadez of Ida Baker was third at 119, Nicholas Bearman of the Bulldogs third at 154, Josh Garton of Mariner fourth at 154, Baker’s Preshard was fourth at 169 and David Meveilleux of Mariner tied for fourth at 183.

The Region 2A-4 meet is April 6 at East Lee High School.

Island Coast 13, Cape Coral 3 (5 innings): Austin Schoolcraft had two hits, including a double, and two RBI. Brandon Tuduri also knocked in two runs for the Gators (10-5).

Lehigh 5, Ida Baker 3 (8 innings): Charles Ferguson and Tito Ortiz had an RBI each for Ida Baker (6-6).

Fort Myers 7, North Fort Myers 3: Nick Tobia’s bases-loaded double produced three runs for the Red Knights (5-8).

Bonita Springs 11, Oasis 3: The Sharks slipped to 6-4 with their loss to the 11-3 Bull Sharks.

San Jose (CA) Valley Christian 7, Bishop Verot 2: Grayson Carpenter and Brady Baxmann drove in the Vikings’ (12-4) runs in the All Faiths Classic in Las Vegas. Verot lost three of four in the tournament.

SOFTBALL

Cape Coral 21, Island Coast 2 (3 innings): Marina Beaulieu was 2-for-3 with a triple, driving in four runs and scoring three times. Also for Cape Coral (5-8), Mya Ramirez was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Ida Baker 16, Cypress Lake 1 (4 innings): Makayla Nieves and Natalie Hernandez each hit one of five Bulldogs (5-5) triples and had three RBI. Mckenzie Cole had a triple and two RBI, while Oliviah Slywestrek and Alyssa Auger added two RBI each. Kaiden Nealeigh, who had three hits, struck out 10 batters over four innings.

Fort Myers 9, North Fort Myers 6: North took its first loss of the year (10-1) at the hands of 8-0 Fort Myers. Jordyn Prado, a freshman, went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Red Knights. Kaliyah Williams had two hits including a triple and drove in a run.

Bonita Springs 18, Oasis 3 (3 innings): Brooklyn Simison had an RBI for the Sharks.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

Cape Coral 3, South Fort Myers 1: The Seahawks have won their last two after an 0-5 start.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Cape Coral 14, Sarasota Military Academy 1: Abigail Cudnik scored five goals for the Seahawks (7-4). Mikala Allen had two goals and an assist, while Ella Bernard and Reagan Randolph scored two goals each.

Bishop Verot 20, Palmetto Ridge 1: Lily Lockard’s four-goal, five-assist effort led the barrage in which 16 different Vikings scored. She had a career-best eight draw controls. Piper Kelleher had two goals,an assist and forced four turnovers, while Lily Murnane and Daphne O’Hara had a goal and two assists each.
