North Fort Myers girls soccer team advances to state title game

Red Knights down Tallahassee Lincoln, 3-0, to advance to final match

North Fort Myers’ girls soccer team has a date with a state championship on Friday.

The Red Knights (18-3) downed Tallahassee Lincoln 3-0 Tuesday in the first of two FHSAA Class 5A Final Four matches in DeLand. Top-seeded Plantation American Heritage (15-3-1) downed Green Cove Springs Horizon 4-1 Tuesday’s second semifinal.

All the scoring took place in the second half between North and Lincoln.

Sophia Kerns scored her team-leading 29th goal of the season to put the second-seeded Red Knights on the board. Lexi Neumann made it 2-0 shortly after, drilling a long shot into the net. Brianna Sullivan’s header closed out the scoring.

Gigi Gerke contributed an assist. Brooke Hankinson had the shutout in goal.

Friday’s Class 5A state championship match at DeLand’s Spec Martin Stadium is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
